Understanding Martyn’s Law: What It Means for Your Organisation and How SecuriCare Can Help

Published At: Tue 08 Jul 2025

This July marks 20 years since the 7/7 London bombings, a tragic day when 52 people lost their lives and more than 770 were injured in coordinated terrorist attacks on the city’s public transport system. The events of that day exposed serious vulnerabilities in public safety and have since shaped the UK’s approach to counter-terrorism and public security.

More recently, the Manchester Arena attack in 2017, which claimed 22 lives, further highlighted the urgent need for strengthened protective measures. Among the victims was Martyn Hett. The tireless campaigning of Martyn’s mother, Figen Murray, was crucial in driving forward the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, commonly known as Martyn’s Law.

Why Martyn’s Law Is Needed

Since 7/7, the UK has faced numerous terror threats and attacks. While law enforcement and security agencies have made significant advances, responsibility for protecting public spaces must be shared by all organisations managing venues and events. Martyn’s Law creates a consistent legal framework requiring those responsible for certain premises and events to prepare and take appropriate security measures.

How SecuriCare Can Help You Prepare

What Next?

Martyn’s Law includes a minimum 24-month implementation period before enforcement begins, allowing organisations time to understand their obligations and prepare appropriately. Now is the time to start preparing.

Martyn’s Law is about protecting lives. Taking early action gives your team the time and confidence to build a proportionate and effective response to the threat of terrorism.
