Searching People Course (Education)
This course has been designed for young people’s services and education settings to provide staff with the knowledge and skills to conduct a legal, safe and professional search of a person and their belongings. The training covers:
- Understanding the statutory guidance for searching, screening and confiscation: Advice for Schools
- Understanding the Policy and Procedures for conducting a legal, safe and professional search
- How to search a person using a hand-held metal detector
- How to search a person by hand (Pat-Down)
- The process for searching a person's belongings, e.g., bags, lockers or desks and how to record these searches
- The process for conficating illegal or dangerous objects or substances
The implementation of this training will help deter young people from bringing illegal or prohibited objects and substances onto the premises. It will provide staff with the skills to detect and confiscate illegal and prohibited objects and substances that are brought to the premises, e.g., knives/weapons, alcohol, drugs and legal highs (NPS).
