This 2 day workshop is designed to disseminate best practice in relation to working with individuals diagnosed with Dementia.

WHO IS THE COURSE DESIGNED FOR? 

Staff who deal with clients, diagnosed with Dementia, in a health or social care setting.

COURSE AIMS

This two-day workshop-based course has been designed to meet criteria outlined in the government’s National Dementia Strategy.  The course addresses the frequent carer dilemma of whether or not to intervene in incidents, and is relevant for any support worker or carer who regularly works within services catering to elderly individuals. 

Day 1 takes an in-depth, person-centred approach to examining the causes of behaviour in dementia, and designed to equip staff with the skills and insight to address possible causes – such as positive interaction, activities, environmental changes and checking for physical pain/discomfort.

Day 2 introduces staff to the latest, research-based physical intervention skills for preventing injury to the person themselves, and all other parties.  This comprises elements of Manual Handling, Disengagement, Safe Holding and Falls Prevention

DELIVERY/ASSESSMENT
