Teaching & Training Awards
From September 2010 the Government expects that all staff employed as trainers and teachers in the learning and skills sector will be trained to a standard that allows them to achieve Qualified Teacher learning and Skills Status (QTLS) and be licensed to practice by the Institute of Life Long Learning. This expectation supersedes the targets for qualified teachers and trainers in the Success for All agenda.
The full package of reforms is set out in “Equipping our Teachers for the Future” available from DCSF (formally DfES) Publications.
TRAINERS AWARDS
Option 1: Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS)
This award provides the candidate with the required FULL teaching/training status which is required by 2010. Unlike the 7303/02 awards which only ‘prepare’ the candidate for delivering learning/training, the Level 3 Direct Training and Support gives the successful candidate full QTLS Status.
In 2010 anyone wishing to deliver training or teaching to adults will be required to hold full QTLS Status. The qualified training practitioner will be able to register with the Life Long Learning UK website and be awarded a Unique Learner Number (ULN). Any organisation wishing to source a qualified trainer/teacher will be directed to the list of qualified training/teaching practitioners.
The key to achieving the award is a comprehensive initial assessment, this enables your assessor to review your past achievements and map them to your desired learning outcomes. This prevents any ‘overlap’ of learning and ensures maximum benefits to the learner and ensures your self development plan will reflect your current abilities and individual needs.
This process is started on induction days and a payment at induction of £450.00 is required. This payment is deducted from the total cost of your training programme. Induction days are carried out on a monthly basis and the dates can be found at the foot of this page.
The ethos of direct training and support qualifications is to enable trainers/teachers to look at their own learning needs; identify learning needs in others; agree them; design a suitable learning programme; deliver the programme to individuals and groups using a range of methods; and review the process and change it if required. This programme produces naturally occurring evidence towards the 1886 Conflict Management Trainers Award and the ICM Physical Skills Tutors Award which proves a cost effective option to provide trainers with the tool box to be most effective in their role come 2010.
Cost: £1150.00
Duration: 3-12 months (blended learning e.g. a mixture of distance learning/assessment/practical/workshops)
Option 2: Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) + Conflict Management Trainers Award (1886)
Because the Level 3 Direct Training and Support is a higher award than the 1886 and by achieving QTLS status the candidate will have produced much of the evidence required to obtain the 1886 award, these two award can be achieved at the same time.
There are of cause some additional registration and certification fees to pay and some additional professional criteria to evidence, but these are easily achieved whilst undertaking the QTLS award. For this reason SecuriCare offer a package whereby the astute candidate can attain both awards in one personal development plan.
Cost: £1350.00
Duration: 3-12 months (blended learning e.g. a mixture of distance learning/assessment/practical/workshops)
Option 3: Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS) + (1886) + Physical Skills Tutors Award
If you are involved in training for the prevention and management of both non-physical and physically challenging behaviour, why not combine your trainers certificate QTLS together with both the 1886 and the Institute of Conflict Management Physical Skills Tutors Award. This provides the professional trainer in this specialist area with all the necessary qualifications in one personal development plan.
Cost: £1850.00
Duration: 3-12 months (blended learning e.g. a mixture of distance learning/assessment/practical/workshops)
