Physical Skills Tutors Award (ICM-PSTA)

The Institute of Conflict Management (ICM) launched its Physical Skills Tutor Award (PSTA) in January 2008.  This award is designed to provide national recognition and certification for trainers involved in the tuition of physical skills as part of an overall strategy for preventing and managing challenging or violent behaviours.

This award was 10 years in development and it meets all the requirements of the ICM National Minimum Standards (NMS) for physical skills tuition.

The NMS for physical skills tuition:

 

  1. The Tutor must have an auditable Quality Improvement process in place.  This must include risk assessment and training needs analysis
  2. Qualified Teacher Learning Status (QTLS).  The Tutor must be a qualified Teacher/Trainer at Level 3 or higher
  3. The Tutor must hold trainers certification for both non-physical and physical skills training*
  4. The Tutor must be able to provide evidence of sector knowledge and experience
  5. The Tutor must adhere to the requirement for Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
  6. The Tutor must provide evidence of an ability/competency assessment process for learners
  7. The Tutor must provide evidence of a risk assessment process for each physical skill taught**

 

SecuriCare are able to deliver all the training required to ensure you and/or your organisation are able to meet the complete this highly valued and award.  As part of the training process the learner will also be provided with all the necessary knowledge and understanding, evidence and documentation to prepare them for Panel***.

Accredited prior learning (APL) will be taken into account when preparing your personal development plan.  Unique costs will be determined following your initial assessment and development evaluation.

**The ICM has a 6 point risk assessment process for physical skills

*** Following initial application for the ICM-PSTA the candidate must attend an ICM-Physical Skills assessment panel where a professional discussion with 3 ICM PS-Panel Members will take place
