Emergency First Aid At Work ( 1 day )

This programme has been developed for:

Those employees whom have been nominated to take charge in the event of an accident or illness in the workplace and to provide support to already qualified First Aiders.

The course is ideally recommended for small businesses of less than 50 employees needing to qualify their staff in basic First Aid Emergency Treatment, and for such employees who may be required to support the individual who has already attained the relevant First Aid at Work Certificate.

The course meets all recommendations in accordance with the Health and Safety (first aid) Regulations 1981.

The aim of this programme is:

To enable staff to respond positively to a variety of common injuries and illnesses, prior to the arrival of qualified medical assistance.

The topics covered include:

  • Understanding the role of a First Aider including reference to :

: The importance of cross infection;

: The need for recording incidents and infection;

: Use if available equipment;

  • Assessing the situation and circumstances in order to act in a safe/prompt and effective manner in an emergency
  • Administering First Aid to a Casualty who is unconscious ( including seizure)
  • Administering Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Administering First Aid to a Casualty who is choking
  • Administering First Aid to a Casualty who is wounded and bleeding
  • Administering First Aid to a Casualty who is suffering from shock
  • Providing appropriate First Aid for minor injuries (including small cuts, grazes and bruises, minor burns and scalds, small splinters.

Method of delivery and assessment:

There are no formal assessments during the course; however the instructor will continually assess the candidates participating in the practical skills. It is a requirement that candidates can demonstrate CPR to the instructor’s satisfaction
