HSE First Aid At Work refresher Course ( 2 day)
This programme has been developed for:
Staff who are wishing to renew their First Aid At Work (statutory) certificate and whose existing certificate is still valid.
First Aiders whose certificates have expired are required to complete the full four day First Aid At Work course.
This course updates and refreshes candidates First Aid knowledge and skills, whilst allowing sufficient time for revision and practical sessions.
The course is delivered over two days and candidates are required to complete a practical assessment.
On completion of the course candidates will receive a new certificate which will remain valid for a further three years
The aim of this programme is:
To enable staff to respond positively and effectivley to a variety of common injuries and illnesses, prior to the arrival of qualified medical assistance.
The topics covered include:
- Legal requirements
- Safety at the scene of an accident
- Incident management
- Initial assessment
- Dealing with n unconscious casualty
- Basic life support/CPR
- Dealing with bleeding and shock
- Recovery position
- Breaks and fractures
- Burns and scalds
- Treatment of other common illnesses/injuries.
Method of delivery and assessment:
There are two practical assessments carried out at the end of the course, (CPR skills, and Incident Management)

2 days for the ‘Approved First Aid at Work Refresher’
