S.I.A. Conflict Management Trainers Award

This programme has been developed for:

Staff who have responsibility for delivering Conflict Management Training.

The Security Industry Authority (SIA) has made it a legal requirement for all security operatives who interface with the general public to undertake conflict management training.  Trainers who are to deliver this programme must hold an SIA/QCA accredited training qualification.

From January 2006 the SIA will require all trainers who train candidates for SIA endorsed licensing qualifications to have a teaching or training qualification at NQF Level 3 or above.

Trainers who register for a Conflict Management Trainer programme and/or assessment to gain a SIA endorsed trainers qualification must have:

A formal recognised teaching/training or learning/instruction qualification that includes facilitation skills of group management and learning, and;

Knowledge and working experience of the security industry and/or hospitality sector as appropriate.

The aim of this programme is:

To enable learners to deliver the Level 2 BTEC in Conflict Management into the security sector. There are two units:

1. Principles and Practices of Conflict Management

2. Scenario-based Learning and Training in Conflict Management

The topics covered include:

Unit 1: Principles and Practices of Conflict Management

1. Know about the principles and practices of conflict management in a specified context

At the end of the programme, learners will be able to:

  • Explain reasons for conflict management in specified context
  • Analyse the reasons for using conflict management in customer care
  • Explain behavioural patterns and physiological responses and their impact …on conflict management
  • Describe the relevant legislation applicable to conflict management
2. Understand how the principals of conflict management are implemented in a specified context

At the end of the programme, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the reasons for implementing conflict management
  • Describe the procedures involved in dynamic risk assessment
  • Explain how the Law applies when implementing conflict management

Unit 2: Scenario-based Learning and Training in Conflict Management

1. Be able to facilitate and deliver scenario-based learning and training in conflict management

At the end of the programme, learners will be able to:

  • Write a scenario to be used in learning and training in conflict management
  • Facilitate and deliver a scenario-based learning and training
2. Be able to complete a self-assessment, group and personal de-brief

At the end of the programme, learners will be able to:

  • Carry out a self-assessment and personal de-brief, and give feedback
  • Evaluate the teaching/training styles used in the facilitation and delivery of .the conflict managements scenario
  • Explain, with justification, the changes that should be made when delivering …the scenario on another occasion

Method of delivery and assessment:

Formal presentation, group work, practical exercises and discussion.

Delegate knowledge is assessed via a combination of portfolio and scenario based learning facilitation (see below)

Duration of training:

60 hours in total

Assessed distance learning and assignments

Candidates must:

  • Establish the underpinning knowledge relating to conflict management or in …the case of the SIA the relevant sector certification
  • Complete a work related project
  • Create a portfolio of evidence

3-day workshop

During which the candidate will:

  • Be assessed on their knowledge, understanding and application of conflict …management
  • Deliver and be assessed on their scenario based learning facilitation
