SIA Physical Intervention Skills for Security Staff (Level 2)
This programme has been developed for:
Individuals who are working in the private security industry.
Staff who are required to intervene in work related incidents of physical violence where safety is compromised and all other non-physical intervention has, or would have failed.
Staff who perform tasks that may expose them to the risk of angry, threatening, aggressive or violent behaviour.
The aim of this programme is:
To provide learners with the knowledge and skill necessary to know when to physically intervene and when not to.
To enable them to apply appropriate techniques in order to ‘stabilise’ and ‘relocate’ individuals whose behaviour presents a risk.
The topics covered include:
- Understand physical interventions and the legal and professional implications of their use
- Understand how to reduce the risk of harm when physical intervention skills are used
- Be able to use non aggressive physical skills to protect yourself and others from assault
- Be able to use non-pain related standing holding and escorting techniques, including non-restrictive and restrictive skills
- Understand good practice to follow after physical interventions
Method of delivery and assessment:
Formal presentation, group work, practical exercises and discussion.
Learner’s knowledge is evidenced by verbal or written questioning.
Duration of training:
10 guided hours learning
