LDAF NVQ Level 2 Managing Challenging Behaviour
This programme has been developed for:
Staff who deal with clients, in a health and social care setting, who may be required to respond to challenging behaviour.
The aim of this programme is:
To help staff gain confidence in managing different types of challenging behaviour, and to reduce the risk of staff becoming a victim of violence.
To develop and implement person centred non aversive intervention strategies within a framework of Positive Behavioural Support
The topics covered include:
- Defining ‘challenging behaviour’
- Understanding common causes of challenging behaviour
- Promoting positive behaviours
- Developing effective communication strategies
- Understanding the ‘cycle of behaviour’
- Recognising the warning signs
- Understanding and controlling the ‘fight or flight’ response
- Exploring effective de-escalation and calming strategies
- Post incident procedures
Method of delivery and assessment:
Formal presentation, group work, practical exercises and discussion.
Delegate knowledge is checked using Q&A or written tests.
Duration of training:
4 days.
