Conflict management within the dementia care setting
This programme has been developed for:
Staff who interact with service users who interact with clients or service users with dementia within a health and social care setting.
The aim of this programme is:
To develop staff knowledge and confidence in dealing with such individuals in a safe, dignified and appropriate manner.
The topics covered include:
· Anticipating and de-fusing challenging behaviour
· Understanding the legal and ethical implications of physical interventions
· The use of therapeutic interventions to minimise the need for physical interventions
· Safe methods and the effects of physical intervention
· Using physical interventions only as part of an overall strategy for managing challenging and un-safe behaviours
· A review process for planned responses and interventions
Method of delivery and assessment:
Formal presentation, group work, practical exercises and discussion.
Learner’s knowledge is evidenced by verbal or written questioning.
Duration of training:
1 day.
