BILD Accredited Physical Intervention Training

This programme has been developed for:

Organisations requiring BILD compliant physical intervention training for staff.

SecuriCare are pleased to announce that as a BILD accredited training provider they are able to deliver bespoke training in line with the BILD Code of Practice.

Each programme is tailored to meet the specific requirements of the client organisation and its unique client group. The course content is only finalised after full and thorough consultation with all members of the local multi-disciplinary team including clients and family members or carers.

Training in the use of physical interventions is provided in conjunction with training in:

  • Risk assessment
  • The role of individual care and support plans
  • Strategies for promoting alternative behaviours
  • Preventing aggressive, violent, unsafe or high risk behaviours
  • Non-physical methods of responding to aggressive or violent behaviour

Your training will include the following:

  • An overview of the Guidance For Restrictive Physical Interventions and the BILD Code Of Practice
  • Relevant national guidance and legislation
  • The importance of an appropriate values base
  • Staff accountability and decision making
  • Understanding how gender and cultural diversity may affect the use of physical contact or intervention
  • Understanding how age and physical development affects the use of physical contact or intervention
  • Common contra-indications for use of physical interventions
  • The difference between ‘escorting’, ‘touching’ and ‘holding’
  • Understanding and applying the ‘gradient of control’ concept
  • Avoiding potentially dangerous postures and positions
  • Known mechanisms for injury and fatality
  • Active and reactive monitoring strategies
  • Appropriate aftercare and support

Method of delivery and assessment:

Formal presentation, group work, practical exercises and disscusion.

Delegate knowledge is checked using Q&A or written tests.

Physical capabilities are checked using observation and demonstration.

Duration of training:

1 day to 5 days depending on a clients unique requirements.
