Quick Overview

The incidence of Dementia is growing, and those diagnosed need high quality care and support. This short online course are provide learners with a detailed introduction to working with individuals who have been diagnosed with Dementia.

Staff who deal with clients, in a health or social care setting.

This half-day, workshop-based course dealing with the effects of ageing, and resulting physical and mental health changes, is designed for any nurse or carer who regularly works with the elderly.  It may be of particular interest to those working in the domiciliary care sector, where it is currently recognised that there will be a doubling in the numbers of elderly people with dementia being cared for in their own homes over the next two decades.

The training takes a highly inclusive approach with course participants, including group activities and individual tasks designed to encourage carers to utilise their existing knowledge, and to examine society’s values and their own attitudes towards the elderly. While symptoms of dementia and its associated behaviours are discussed at length, the human impact of the condition is emphasised throughout the workshop. All elements of the course are designed to meet the requirements of the QCF system at Levels 2 and 3
