Quick Overview

The SecuriCare 'Licensed Trainer Award' will allow the successful candidate to deliver 'Preventing and Managing Disruptive Passenger Behaviour' Training at their chosen level: Theory Only; Theory and Disengagement Techniques; or Theory, Disengagement and Physical Intervention Techniques. It is highly recommended that candidates hold a recognised QCF Training Award at Level 3 or higher (please see related products left). The SecuriCare Licensed Trainer will undergo training over an agreed period to meet their chosen training need. The skill set for physical techniques will be agreed as part of the training needs analysis process.

WHO IS THE COURSE DESIGNED FOR? 

Individuals who are responsible for delivering training to staff how to respondsafely and effectively to 'disruptive passenger behaviour'.

The course is suitable for individuals with or without previous experience of delivering ‘Physical Intervention’ training.

SecuriCare are an Institute of Conflict Management ICM Quality Award centre.

COURSE AIMS

To develop staff knowledge in relation to preventing and managing 'disruptive passenger behaviour' (before it becomes 'physical')
To develop staff knowledge, skill and competence in delivering of a range of physical skills including breakaways and holding/intervention techniques.
To prepare trainers to deliver instruction in physical skills (breakaways & holds)
To prepare trainers to assess learning in relation to physical skills (breakaways & holds)

COURSE TOPICS/STRUCTURE 

PREVENTING & MANAGING DISRUPTIVE PASSENGER BEHAVIOUR

  • The legal context, health and safety law, policies, procedures an guidelines
  • Relevant Air Navigation Orders and the Commanders options
  • What is conflict? What is violence? What is conflict management?
  • Understanding why people become angry, abusive and aggressive
  • Preventative measures: customer service, safety and security procedures
  • Dynamic risk assessment; reducing the risk of conflict, confrontation or violence
  • Understanding and managing the "fight or flight" stress response
  • Developing effective communication skills
  • How to be an assertive communicator
  • Defusing, de-escalating, calming and resolving conflict
  • Post incident procedures, recording and reporting requirements

Course content is finalised following a full training needs analysis.

BREAKAWAYS &/OR PHYSICAL INTERVENTIONS

  • The legal context, health and safety law, policies, procedures an guidelines
  • Understanding the Law in relation to the "Use of Force"
  • Understanding the terms appropriate and proportionate
  • Understanding restraint risks; Positional / Restraint Asphyxia
  • Do’s and don’ts during a restraint
  • Safe Physical Intervention techniques
  • The application of a disruptive restraint kit
  • Post incident procedures, passenger monitoring, recording and reporting requirements

Course content is finalised following a full training needs analysis.

DELIVERY/ASSESSMENT

Formal presentation, group work, practical exercises and discussion.

Learner’s knowledge is evidenced by verbal or written questioning.
