Quick Overview

Therapeutic Safe Holding Plans are designed for biological parents, adoptive parents, foster parents/carers, kinship carers and other individuals with a responsibility for responding to children who present challenging behaviours that require safe intervention to prevent harm.

Therapeutic Safe Holding Plans are designed for adoptive parents, biological parents, foster parents, kinship carers and other individuals with a responsibility for responding to children who present challenging behaviours that require safe intervention to prevent harm.

To produce a child-centred safe holding plan, covering therapeutic safe holding skills as well as advice on calming and de-escalation.

To provide a bespoke training session in support of the plan designed to provide the knowledge and skills which will enable parents and/or carers to safely hold a child when they are engaging in physically harmful behaviours.

The process of producing a safe holding plan typically involves:

  • An audit of behaviours and triggers
  • Screening to identify any risk factors
  • The development of an age and size appropriate therapeutic holding strategy incorporating safety guidelines
  • The delivery of a supporting training programme
  • The implementation of reactive monitoring strategies
  • A 12 week follow up for review and revision of the strategy

At the end of the process SecuriCare will provide:

  • A hard copy of the therapeutic safe holding plan
  • A further refinement of the plan if additional information is revealed during ongoing monitoring
