The Counter Fraud & Security Management Service (CFSMS) have set targets for the training of all front line NHS employees in ‘Conflict Resolution’ by 2008.

They have set a national training syllabus, which is covered in 10 learning outcomes:

1. Describe common causes of conflict
2. Describe different forms of communication
3. Give examples of communication breakdown
4. Explain different warning and danger signs
5. Describe patterns of behaviour they may encounter during different interactions
6. Explain three examples of communication models that can assist in conflict resolution
7. Explain the use of ‘reasonable force’
8. Give examples of impact factors
9. Describe the use of distance when dealing with conflict
10. Describe different methods for dealing with conflict situations

This 29 page booklet is designed to provide up to three hours study time towards the National Conflict resolution Syllabus.  This allows NHS organisations to provide all front-line staff with approximately 50% of the recommended minimum study time in a very cost effective way.  It is envisaged the booklet will be supported by classroom based training sessions.
