WHO IS POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT TRAINING FOR?
Positive Behaviour Support Training (PBS) is for staff who work in a setting in which there are individuals who present with challenging behaviour.
The Department of Health’s ‘Positive & Proactive Care’ document states that individualised plans, incorporating PBS plans should be implemented for all people who use services who are known to be at risk of being exposed to restrictive interventions
TRAINING AIMS
Our team of qualified behavioural analysts/support planners will produce a person-centred support plan which reflects PBS principles and that incorporates primary, secondary and tertiary preventative strategies
SERVICE SCOPE/STRUCTURE
The process of producing a person centred plan typically involves:
- A review of current practices/procedures and initial assessments/consultations
- The development of appropriate positive support plans and any appropriate policy refinements
- The delivery of appropriate staff training (including classroom and/or online components)
- A 12 week follow up review and revision of the strategy
DELIVERY/OUTCOME
At the end of the process:
- The support plan will be provided in a pdf format.
- Any ‘physical Intervention’ strategies included will be supported by unique person-centred risk assessments.
A follow up workshop can be convened as well as any further sessions needed to provide staff with the knowledge and skills they need to implement the plan. These may include: ‘Active Support’ skills, ‘Intensive Interactions’, ‘Physical Intervention’ skills (developed and delivered in line with BILD and ICM guidelines) as well as ‘Recording, reporting and reflection’ techniques.
