Jack Mooney is a veteran first Aid trainer and it shows. He works seamlessly to keep all the students engaged on today’s course, “My job is not only to ensure that students leave with more knowledge and skills than they had when they arrived, but to make sure they leave with the right skills. A good way to ensure they do is to make sure they enjoy learning them..” Judging by the smiles and laughter Jack has succeeded yet again.

First Aid TrainingSo who is the 3-Day First Aid at Work for? In short the answer is: those individuals who are nominated as First Aider's in their workplace. The course ensures that the nominated person has the skills they need to fulfil the role and makes sure the company complies with the Health & Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

Jack says “We aim to equip staff to respond promptly, positively and effectively to a wide range of first aid emergencies prior to the arrival of qualified medical assistance such as paramedics or doctors.. Time is critical when someone has been taken ill or been involved in an accident..” Looking round you can see that Jack has drilled the learners well. He introduces them to a hypothetical test scenario and instantly delegates are involved in dynamically risk assessing the situation; ‘Is it safe?’ they are asked before Jack provides further information and encourages them to take appropriate action.

Janine is one of the learners today, “I was quite nervous before I arrived today but Jack was fantastic at putting us all at our ease. The training was brilliant – he knows so much! And I can’t believe I did that test scenario all on my own. I did mouth-to-mouth and CPR. I’m so proud of myself!”

Jack continues, “There’s lots to learn; managing cross infection; primary and secondary assessments, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation, dealing with choking and bleeding, managing shock as well as recording and reporting and a whole host of other topics, but I take my job very seriously. So when people leave they know their stuff. That will make the difference in a real emergency..”

The course runs for three days and can be held in your place of work or at one of SecuriCare’s training locations around the country. Every delegate is fully assessed and undergoes a practical assessment which covers incident management and CPR skills before being provided with a certificate that is valid for 3 years.
