Clients often approach Securicare with a view to developing a bespoke programme of learning. One such service provider based in the south east of England recently did so. We were asked by the service Director for a blended programme of learning to cover; Learning Disabilities (LD) and Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), which included both online and classroom sessions for their whole LD directorate (over 130 staff),  with some additional skills-days for those who require it. The online programme consisted of three interlinked courses:

  • Introduction to Learning Disabilities
  • Working with People with Learning Disabilities
  • Working Positively with Learning Disabilities and Challenging Behaviour

Learners were told that these courses had to be passed before attending the classroom courses. Programme designer and course tutor Paul Rees said, “The results were very impressive. Having now completed the first classroom day it was clear the learner had picked up a considerable level of knowledge from the online courses. This enabled me to discuss PBS concepts in more detail and person centred way relating the material to the individual service-users. This created a deeper understanding of key principles and strategies that could be applied in the care setting where it counts.”

Blended Learning programmes are becoming increasing favoured by organisations keen to optimise the care and support being delivered to service users. The diagram below illustrates the levels of learning that support staff performance in the work setting.
